Marcus Ashiangmor, SG of Ododow Ghana

We speak to Marcus Ashiangmor, of Ododow GH, about the importance of leadership and values and what it takes to be a symbol of progress and hope.

What does Ododow GH do?

Ododow GH is a non-profit and advocacy based organisation with a primary focus in the areas of socio-cultural negatives and violence. We have launched three successful campaigns against violent extremism, mob violence and sex abuse in schools. We were also key stakeholders to the Centre for Democratic Development and Youth Bridge foundation where we strategised ways in which last year’s elections could become more peaceful. We intend to spread our reach in order to gain wide coverage so that the ordinary Ghanaian can be assisted.

Ododow Ghana has a primary focus to tackle an aspect of democratic development which is education and sensitisation on various issues of national and international relevance. We launch campaigns on extremism, gender based violence, child abuse and issues of child trafficking. Basically, any way we can create awareness of important issues.

What is the importance of leadership and values?

For a society to move from one destination to another it is critical that they have a strong leader steering the affairs. A leader is a symbol of progress and hope; you have to inspire everyone so that they can  be able to have a realisation of a great and better future. A leader also has to be honest with his followers. If you need people to genuinely abide and believe in your vision, you have to share the intricacies and the successes so that they don’t feel isolated. It makes them feel a part of the transformation process.
